Local artist begins new business venture
PAWLING, NY (December 11, 2007) – Artist/Photographer Alanna Facchin’s first collection of natural photographs and artwork has been made available to the public through a new Internet and local business venture, liketidalwater.com.

Alanna Facchin, a Pawling High School graduate, has been creating art since a very young age.  She is currently earning her Master's at SUNY New Paltz in Math/Science/Technology Education.

“Both of my parents are artistic, and I was lucky enough to inherit that gift from them,” Facchin says. “I have always been very creative, and I have a unique eye for detail and composition that I think comes through in my work.”

After immersing herself in the local art culture through working for Patterson’s Pique Assiette Studios, a mosaic and art gallery on Route 22, Facchin decided that it was time to share her work with others.

“I appreciate nature and the little things that other people might pass by or write off as ordinary,” Facchin says. “I’m excited to have created this opportunity to share what I see with others.”

Facchin’s interest in the natural world isn’t just a hobby. She is a quite educated environmentalist – with an Associate’s degree in Environmental Science from Dutchess Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Biology from SUNY New Paltz, she has the ability to not only recognize beauty in nature, but understand its background as well.

Her knowledge and curiosity about nature are what led Facchin to the name of her business.

“Something about tides has always fascinated me,” she says. “The rhythm of ebb and flow in the water is something that I think of as being almost spiritual.”

Liketidalwater.com
is Facchin’s first attempt to make her work available to the public.  Original pieces can be purchased on her Web site or at various local retailers, including Pique Assiette Studios and The Book Cove in the village of Pawling.  Facchin is an avid supporter of local businesses, and urges people to think local for this year’s holiday season.

“It’s really important for people to support local artists and merchants,” she says. “Buying local gives you the opportunity to become part of the community.”

Products currently available include greeting cards, calendars, quality framed art and photography prints, and mosaics (available only at Pique Assiette Studios.)  To learn more about Facchin or purchase her work, go to www.liketidalwater.com.  If you’re a local business owner who is interested in selling Alanna Facchin’s art at your store, contact her at liketidalwater@gmail.com or 845.337.6385.
