| Local
artist offers her work on new Web site |

Pawling artist and photographer Alanna Facchin has started a new
Internet venture offering her first collection of natural photographs
and artwork to the public. The site is liketidalwater.com. The name of
her business comes from her love of nature.
"I appreciate nature and the little
things
that other people might pass by or write off as ordinary," Facchin
says. "I'm excited to have created this opportunity to share what I see
with others."
Facchin comes from an artistic
background. She
is one of five children, all artistically inclined. She can't remember
a time when art has not been part of her life.
"Both of my
parents are artistic, and I was lucky enough to inherit that gift from
them," Facchin says. "I have always been very creative, and I have a
unique eye for detail and composition that I think comes through in my
work."
Facchin is a graduate of
Pawling High School. She
holds an associate's degree in environmental science from Dutchess
Community College and a bachelor's degree in education and biology from
SUNY New Paltz. This background allows her to recognize the beauty in
nature and understand its importance. She is currently earning her
master's degree at SUNY New Paltz in math/science/technology education.
In a perfect world Facchin will
be able to combine her passion for art
with her desire to teach.
Since April, she has worked in
the art world with Vanessa Muro at Patterson's Pique Assiette Studios,
a mosaic and art shop on Route 22.
This inspired her to share her work with others, hence her new Web site.
"I tend to zoom in on small
stuff that people tend to miss," she
explained.
As for the name of her site she
said, "Something about tides has always
fascinated me. The rhythm of ebb and flow in the water is something
that I think of as being almost spiritual."
Liketidalwater.com is Facchin's
first attempt to make her work
available to the public. Original pieces can be purchased on her Web
site or at various local retailers, including Pique Assiette Studios
and The Book Cove.
Facchin, like her brother Tim,
is also
musically inclined. She plays the guitar and harmonica, sings and can
often be found performing at local open mic nights.
Facchin is also an avid
supporter of local businesses, and urges people
to think local for this year's holiday season.
"It's really important for
people to support local artists and
merchants," she says. "Buying local gives you the opportunity to become
part of the community."
Products currently available
include
greeting cards, calendars, quality framed art and photography prints,
and mosaics (available only at Pique Assiette.) To learn more about
Facchin or purchase her work, go to www.liketidalwater.com. If you're a
local business owner who is interested in selling Alanna Facchin's art
at your store, contact her at liketidalwater@gmail.com or 845-337-6385.
